In addition to organizing its yearly festivals, Traveling Notes is expanding its activities with new and exciting projects, such as the production of a compact disc.  This idea came into being thanks to the involvement and creative thinking of Paulo Herrera Maluf, a generous philanthropist in the Dominican Republic who has taken a special interest in Traveling Notes.

The objectives of this initiative were manifold.  In the first place we wanted to produce a testimony to the skill and quality of the young participants with whom Traveling Notes typically works and also capture the musical artistry with which they keep amazing us year after year.  In addition we wanted to reflect the multi-cultural nature of our festivals by including music that is representative of the different countries with which we have worked thus far, further our mission of disseminating the cultural heritage of our participants and extend their roles as ambassadors of their countries.  Lastly, this CD is meant to generate much-needed funds to allow Traveling Notes to continue its mission of providing young musicians from different countries with the opportunity to learn and make music in a multi-cultural environment of peer-learning, mutual respect and social responsibility and to select participants based on talent and merit regardless of economic background.

The international nature of the project required several recording sessions: three in Norfolk, VA to produce the matrix and one in the Dominican Republic to overlay the sound of the Dominican musicians.  The first session in Norfolk took place at the end of June with the US musicians and the second recording was made during the Traveling Notes Festival 2009, taking advantage of the presence of the Mexican and Peruvian musicians to record their contributions.  The third one took place early September.  The recordings in Norfolk were done in the Larchmont United Methodist Church whose exceptional acoustics give the CD a superb sound quality.  Based on these three recordings a matrix was made and sent to the Dominican Republic to allow the Dominican musicians to record their performance.  The final cutting, splicing, mixing and mastering took place in a professional studio in the Dominican Republic using the latest technology and state-of-the-art equipment.

All recordings as well as the entire production process were lead by our Artistic Director, Maestro Jorge Aguirre.
